GAF Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide

GAF driveway and paver systems in Miami typically run $8,260-$21,240 installed for paver driveways and $5,310-$14,160 for concrete, with replacement parts and repairs starting around $470. We stock GAF-compatible paver components, edge restraints, and drainage fittings for same-day assessment across Miami-Dade. Most homeowners realize something’s wrong when pavers shift after a heavy rain or when the edge restraint pops loose along the garage apron, usually after three to five years of Miami’s wet-dry cycling.

Which GAF Models This Applies To

GAF’s hardscape line includes the PaveEdge aluminum restraint systems, PermaFlow drainage channels, and the composite paver base panels sold through their commercial roofing and waterproofing divisions. The critical compatibility gotcha: GAF PaveEdge comes in three profiles, standard, commercial, and permeable, each with a different stake spacing and leg depth. Measure from the top of the paver to the compacted base; if it’s under 60 mm, you need the standard profile. Over 75 mm and you’re in commercial territory.

We carry OEM GAF edge restraints and the K-Edge aftermarket equivalent, which matches the stake pattern but uses a slightly thicker aluminum alloy. For drainage channels, we stock GAF’s PermaFlow 100 and 150 series; the 150 is what you’ll find behind most Coral Gables and Pinecrest installations where code requires handling a 10-year storm event. Check the channel width with a tape measure, PermaFlow 100 measures 100 mm at the throat, 150 measures 150 mm. The labels mold into the plastic every 24 inches if you need to confirm without disassembly.

Signs Your GAF Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your GAF Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rocking or tilting after rain. The bedding sand has washed out through a failed joint or a cracked channel drain, leaving voids that let the paver shift. In Miami, this accelerates when lawn irrigation oversprays the driveway and the drainage can’t keep pace.
  • Edge restraint pulling away from the border. The stakes have corroded or the restraint has taken impact from a vehicle tire. GAF’s aluminum restraints hold up better than plastic in salt air, but the galvanized steel stakes still rust through in five to seven years near the coast.
  • Standing water more than 30 minutes after rain stops. The PermaFlow channel is clogged with sediment or the outlet pipe has collapsed. Miami’s sandy soil drains fast when the system works; persistent puddles mean the flow path is blocked somewhere downstream.
  • White efflorescence blooming across paver faces. Moisture is migrating up through the base, carrying calcium hydroxide to the surface. This is cosmetic but signals that the vapor barrier or drainage layer was omitted or punctured during install.
  • Sinking near the garage or walkway intersection. The compacted base has settled, often because organic material wasn’t stripped or because a downspout dumps directly onto the subgrade. We’ve seen this in Coconut Grove after homeowners added gutter extensions that terminated on the driveway instead of draining away.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Price Range (Miami)
Paver driveway installation (new) $8,260-$21,240
Concrete driveway installation $5,310-$14,160
Driveway replacement $5,900-$16,520
Edge restraint replacement (per linear foot) $12-$28
Channel drain repair or section replacement $470-$2,125
Driveway sealing $295-$825
Base repair / localized re-compaction $1,180-$3,540

The range depends on three things: how much of the edge or drainage system has failed, whether we can match the existing paver color and texture, and how far the base damage extends. We price by the square foot for full replacement and by the linear foot for edge work, with the number written on the page before anyone picks up a tool. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, that written price includes parts, labor, disposal, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on the workmanship. No change order gets signed unless the scope changes, and no scope changes without your initials.

There’s a short list of checks that won’t make things worse. Verify the channel drain grate lifts freely and isn’t packed with leaves or grass clippings. Look for the GAF molded label on the edge restraint to confirm which profile you’re dealing with. Walk the perimeter and note where stakes are missing or the restraint has kinked.

Where DIY goes wrong is in the reset. Pulling a paver without proper base compaction underneath guarantees it’ll sink again in six months. Cutting into a drainage channel without knowing where the outlet pipe runs risks collapsing the line, and in Miami’s flat terrain, that pipe may run fifty feet to a street drain you can’t see. The bedding sand needs to be ASTM C33, not masonry sand, and it needs to be screeded to a consistent 25 mm, not eyeballed. We’ve been called in after homeowner repairs where the fix cost more than the original problem because the base had to be torn out and rebuilt. If you’re unsure, call (786) 321-4970 and we’ll assess it, photograph what we find, and give you a written price before any work starts.
