Therma-Tru Windows & Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Therma-Tru-compatible windows and doors across Miami, with typical installed pricing for window replacement running $5,310-$17,700 and impact window installation at $9,440-$29,500 depending on series and frame material. Most Therma-Tru parts we carry same-day, including sills, weatherstripping, hinges, and multipoint locking hardware for the Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, and Smooth-Star lines. The call usually starts with a door that won’t latch tight anymore, or a window sash that drifts closed on its own, or water pooling on the sill after a Miami summer storm.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru labels its entry systems by series, and the part you need depends on which fiberglass skin and which vintage you have. Classic-Craft (mahogany, oak, or canvas texture) uses a thicker 4-9/16″ jamb standard and proprietary hinge mortise spacing that doesn’t interchange with Smooth-Star. Fiber-Classic, the original fiberglass door line, has been running since the 1990s with two generations of multipoint locks; the early series used a 45mm backset, while post-2010 units went to 55mm. Smooth-Star, the paintable fiberglass option, shares some hardware with Fiber-Classic but uses a different weatherstrip groove profile.

We source OEM Therma-Tru parts through their distribution network, and we also stock quality aftermarket equivalents from HOPPE and Ferco where the spec matches. The aftermarket route saves 15-30% on hardware and carries the same function, though we flag it in writing so you know what’s going on your door. To identify your unit, check the hinge edge of the door for a stamped date code and series mark, or the top corner of the glass unit for an NFRC label with the CPD number. If the label’s gone, measure the slab thickness (1-3/4″ for exterior, typically), the jamb depth, and the backset on the deadbolt bore. Getting one of those wrong means the multipoint lock won’t seat flush.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Is Failing

Signs Your Therma-Tru Windows & Doors Is Failing
  • Door sticks or binds in the frame. Fiberglass doesn’t warp like wood, but the composite frame can shift if the sill pan or subsill compresses. In Miami’s high-humidity coastal zones, we see this most in homes built on fill where the slab settles slightly after five to seven years.
  • Visible gap at the top corner of the door when closed. This usually traces to a failed upper hinge screw or stripped hinge mortise, letting the door drop. The fix is rarely the door itself; it’s re-securing the hinge to structural framing and shimming the jamb plumb.
  • Water intrusion at the sill after heavy rain. Therma-Tru’s sill systems have a weep channel that clogs with salt and organic debris in South Florida. The water backs up and finds the path of least resistance, which is often the interior.
  • Multipoint lock handle turns but bolts don’t extend. The gearbox in the mortise lock strips after enough cycles, or the rods between gearbox and shootbolts bind with corrosion. Salt air accelerates this; we replace the gearbox and rods as a matched set.
  • Window sash won’t stay open or drifts closed. The balance system, either coil constant-force or block-and-tackle, loses tension. On Therma-Tru vinyl and aluminum-clad units, the balance shoe wears out first, then the spring follows.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Therma-Tru door hardware replacement in Miami, typical installed cost runs $470-$2,125 depending on whether we’re swapping a single-point lockset or a full multipoint system with active and passive door hardware. Window balance and sash hardware replacement falls in the same range; full window replacement starts at $5,310 per opening and runs to $17,700 for large or impact-rated units. Impact window installation, required in Miami-Dade HVHZ zones, ranges $9,440-$29,500.

Our quotes itemize parts, labor, and any necessary shimming or flashing correction. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is the price. If we open the wall and find rot in the rough opening, we stop, photograph it, and write a change order before proceeding. No signed change order, no additional work. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and hardware function; OEM parts carry their own manufacturer’s warranty, which we document on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

An owner can safely check the weep holes on a Therma-Tru sill with a piece of wire and a shop vacuum, and you can confirm whether the door binds by the season or all year. What goes wrong fast is adjusting a multipoint lock without knowing the engagement sequence, stripping the gearbox, or drilling new holes in a fiberglass door that can’t be patched invisibly. The spring tension in window balance systems can release suddenly and cut or bruise; we don’t recommend homeowners open the jamb pocket.

We carry Therma-Tru-compatible hardware on the truck for the common series, and we can match less common parts within a day or two through our supplier. If you’re not sure which series you have, call (786) 321-4970 and we’ll walk through the identification before we dispatch. Measure twice, write it down, then build it.

FAQs

How long do Therma-Tru doors and windows last in Miami?

Fiberglass doors typically last 25-30 years in South Florida’s climate, though hardware and weatherstripping need attention every 7-10 years. Salt air and direct sun on east- and south-facing exposures push the shorter end of that range. Call (786) 321-4970 for an exact quote on refresh work - estimates are free.

Can the part be repaired instead of replaced?

Weatherstripping, sill caps, and some lock components can be repaired or refreshed. A stripped multipoint gearbox or fatigued window balance spring gets replaced; there’s no reliable field repair that holds. We photograph the condition and explain which path we’re taking before we order parts. Call (786) 321-4970 for a free estimate.

How long does the swap take?

Single-point lockset replacement takes 45-90 minutes. A full multipoint system on a double door runs 3-4 hours including adjustment and testing. Window balance replacement is typically 1-2 hours per sash. We schedule a half-day window and usually finish early. Call (786) 321-4970 to book.

Do you stock Therma-Tru parts?

We stock multipoint locksets, hinges, weatherstripping, and sill components for Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, and Smooth-Star on our service trucks. Specialty or older-series parts we source next-day through our distribution partner. If you’re in a bind, call (786) 321-4970 - we’ll confirm availability while you’re on the line.
