Ameristar Windows & Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible windows and doors across Miami, with most replacement projects quoted between $5,310 and $17,700 installed, depending on opening count, impact rating, and whether the frame needs reworking. Most Ameristar parts we carry on the truck, and we can typically inspect and quote same-day. Miami homeowners usually discover an Ameristar unit is failing when the sash won’t stay open, the lock tongue no longer seats flush, or they feel the Gulf Stream humidity pushing through a seal that used to hold - often after a tropical storm season has worked the weatherstripping loose.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar produces several product tiers, and the part you need depends on which series is installed. The most common we encounter in Miami are the Ameristar 5500 single-hung vinyl series, the 7500 double-hung line, and the Ameristar Patio Door systems sold through regional distributors from 2012 to 2019. The 5500 uses a 3/8-inch diameter spiral balance with a white nylon bushing; the 7500 upgraded to a 7/16-inch balance and switched to a metal-clad shoe that wears differently in salt air.

To identify your part, open the sash and photograph the balance tube label - it is stamped with a 4- or 5-digit code that cross-references to the pound rating. The lock mechanism has a separate SKU molded into the back of the housing. We carry both OEM Ameristar hardware and quality aftermarket equivalents from Truth Hardware and Amesbury. For balances, we prefer OEM: the spring rate is calibrated to the sash weight, and an aftermarket balance with the wrong constant will drift in Florida’s heat cycles. For locks and keepers, aftermarket often matches spec at lower cost, and we will show you both options on the written quote.

Signs Your Ameristar Windows & Doors Is Failing

Signs Your Ameristar Windows & Doors Is Failing
  • Sash drops or won’t stay open. The spiral balance has lost tension or the shoe has cracked. In Miami, UV exposure through unshaded west-facing glass accelerates this; we see it most often in Coral Gables and Pinecrest homes with mature tree lines cleared for hurricane trimming.
  • Visible gap at the meeting rail when locked. The sash tilt pins have worn or the frame has settled. This is not just an air leak; it is a water intrusion path during our summer storms.
  • Lock tongue sticks or grinds. The zinc die-cast lock body has corroded internally from salt-laden humidity. Ameristar used two different lock depths across production years, so matching by sight alone often fails.
  • Condensation between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. In Miami’s climate, this means the desiccant is saturated and the Low-E coating may be degrading from the moisture.
  • Weatherstripping brittle or missing. The pile or fin seal has UV-hardened. On coastal properties from Key Biscayne to Sunny Isles, salt crystals embed in the fibers and act as abrasive once the silicone treatment wears off.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ameristar window and door replacement in Miami, our installed pricing runs $5,310-$17,700 for full-unit replacement, with part-only repairs typically falling in the $470-$2,125 range depending on component count and access difficulty. A spiral balance swap on a standard single-hung is at the lower end; a full IGU replacement with impact-rated laminated glass runs higher. What drives the range: whether the frame is square (Miami’s coral rock substrate shifts), if the opening needs reframing for current wind-load code, and whether you want to match existing grids or upgrade to a divided-lite pattern.

Every quote is a flat written price with line-item parts and labor, delivered before work starts. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that number does not change unless you sign a change order. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; manufacturer warranties run 10-20 years on IGUs and hardware depending on the component. We pull permits when required by Miami-Dade or your municipality, and inspections are included in the flat price.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There is one safe owner check: open the sash, photograph the balance label and lock housing, and email it to us. That saves a trip charge and lets us confirm parts availability before we arrive.

What goes wrong with DIY on Ameristar units: the spiral balance stores significant tension, and releasing it without a winding tool can snap the tube or damage the frame jamb. We have repaired homeowner attempts where the balance was installed backward - the window will operate, but the shoe wears asymmetrically and fails again in 18 months. For IGUs, the unit weighs 40-80 pounds depending on size, and impact-rated glass requires two technicians with suction cups to set square in the frame. We do not recommend homeowner removal.
