Signs Your Barrette Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash won’t stay open or slams shut. The balance shoe or coil spring has failed. In Miami’s salt air, the zinc coating on Barrette’s standard balance assemblies degrades faster than inland ratings suggest - we see this at 8-12 years instead of the published 15.
• Visible moisture between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, allowing humid Gulf air to enter the airspace. Once fog appears, the Low-E coating is already compromised and the IGU must be replaced - defogging sprays do not restore the thermal break.
• Door sticks or drags at the threshold. The composite sill cap has compressed or the adjustable sill screws have backed out. On Elite Series fiberglass doors, the sill pan can also shift if the rough opening wasn’t flashed to Barrette’s spec during original install.
• Draft around the frame perimeter. The compression weatherstrip has lost memory, or the frame has pulled from the rough opening due to thermal cycling. Miami’s afternoon rain followed by 90-degree heat creates expansion stress that rigid vinyl handles poorly over time.
• Crank operator grinds or slips (casement units). The worm gear in the roto operator has stripped, usually from overtightening or from corrosion in the gearbox. Barrette’s older crank mechanisms used a 9/16-inch spindle that is not interchangeable with the current 11/16-inch standard.
