Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s fence line breaks into three series you’ll see in Miami neighborhoods: the Berkshire vinyl privacy series, the Berkshire semi-privacy with staggered pickets, and the Bridgewater composite line that mimics wood grain. The Berkshire posts measure 5 inches square; Bridgewater uses 4.5-inch posts with a different rail-locking system, so the brackets don’t interchange. Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing

• Rail sag between posts. The IKO rail bracket’s internal locking tab has fatigued. Heat cycling in South Florida softens the vinyl bracket ears; they creep outward until the rail drops. You’ll notice a gap between the rail bottom and the picket tops.
• Picket cracking or chalking. UV degradation of the TiO2 cap layer. IKO’s Berkshire white and tan colors show this first on the south-facing yard edge. The picket turns powdery and loses flex strength; a light kick will snap it.
• Gate drag or latch misalignment. The gate post has settled or the hinge rail has twisted. Miami’s seasonal groundwater fluctuation shifts sandy soils; IKO’s standard 24-inch post depth often isn’t enough in Pinecrest’s loose limestone fill.
• Cap separation or missing. The snap-fit cap clips break from thermal expansion. Once water enters the hollow post, freeze-thaw isn’t the issue - it’s the chlorides in our irrigation and storm surge wicking up and corroding any internal metal stiffener.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s safe checking, and then there’s the part where most owners wish they’d stopped. You can verify your IKO series from the post stamp, measure the lean with a level, and photograph the rail bracket gap - that’s useful intelligence for any contractor. What we don’t recommend: digging around a 80-pound concrete footing in 90-degree heat, or trying to extract a rail from a locked IKO bracket without the spreader tool. The brackets are designed for one-way assembly; prying with a screwdriver cracks the ear and converts a $180 rail job into a $450 post replacement.
