Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith manufactures aluminum windows and doors in several product lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across series. The most common we see in Miami are the 5000 Series single-hung windows, the 5500 Series double-hung units, and the 8000 Series sliding patio doors. The series number is stamped on the spacer bar between the glass panes or on a label inside the frame track.

For hardware specifically, Jerith used Truth Hardware operators on most 5000 and 5500 Series units manufactured before 2018; after that, they shifted to their own branded multipoint system. The mounting hole pattern differs by 3/16 inch, which means a Truth replacement will not bolt up to a post-2018 frame without modification. We carry both patterns because we’ve learned to check the manufacture date before ordering.

Aftermarket equivalents exist for most Jerith components, but we default to OEM for weatherstripping and multipoint locks. The aftermarket weatherstrip profiles often compress too quickly in South Florida’s UV exposure, and we’ve replaced enough failed third-party seals at the one-year mark that the small savings usually evaporates.

Signs Your Jerith Windows & Doors Is Failing

• The sash drags or sticks in the track. On Jerith single-hung units, this usually means the balance shoe or coil spring has lost tension. In Miami’s salt air, the metal components corrode faster than the manufacturer rates them for, and we’ve found balance failures at six to eight years rather than the fifteen-year design life.
• Visible moisture between the glass panes. This is seal failure on the insulated glass unit, or IGU. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar saturates, the fogging becomes permanent. Jerith IGUs use a stainless steel spacer, which holds up better than aluminum in our climate, but the butyl seal still degrades under thermal cycling.
• The multipoint lock doesn’t engage at all latching points. On Jerith patio doors, the gearbox connects to top and bottom shootbolts through a steel rod. If one point engages and the other doesn’t, the rod has likely slipped in its coupler, often from repeated slamming in high winds.
• Draft around the frame perimeter. Compression weatherstripping loses its memory over time, and Jerith’s bulb-style seal is particularly prone to this after four to five years of Miami sun. The fix is replacement of the specific worn profile, not the entire window.
• Hardware operates but the sash won’t stay open. This points to balance system failure in hung windows, or a worn roller assembly in sliders. Jerith’s older 5000 Series used a block-and-tackle balance that is no longer manufactured; we retrofit with a compatible constant-force coil system that fits the same jamb pocket.

Component-level repairs cost less. A balance system replacement runs toward the lower end of our window repair range. Multipoint lock hardware replacement, including the gearbox and rods, typically falls in the mid-range. Weatherstripping replacement is the most economical, usually at the lower third of the range.

Every repair quote is flat and written before work starts, per Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. The price includes parts, labor, disposal of the old component, and a one-year workmanship warranty. We also provide a documented photo record of the failed part and the installed replacement, which we email before we leave the site.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of checks any owner can make safely. Verify the lock is fully disengaged before forcing a stuck sash. Clean debris from the track with a vacuum and soft brush. Lubricate the multipoint lock with a dry silicone spray, not WD-40, which attracts grit.

Where DIY ends: balance systems and multipoint lock gearboxes are under spring tension, and the sudden release can damage the frame or injure hands. IGUs require specialized tools to separate from the sash without breaking the glass. We’ve been called to Miami homes where a well-intentioned repair attempt turned a $400 balance replacement into a full sash replacement because the frame was damaged.
