Kohler Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Kohler driveway and pavers systems in Miami typically run $8,260-$21,240 installed for a standard paver driveway, and we stock compatible replacement components for Kohler drainage channels, channel grates, and paver-edge restraint systems with same-day availability on most items. Most Miami homeowners discover a problem when rainwater starts pooling where it used to drain, or when the channel grate lifts after a heavy summer storm. We see this most often in Coral Gables and Pinecrest homes built between 2010 and 2019, where the original Kohler 8-inch and 12-inch channel systems are reaching the end of their resin seal lifespan in our salt-air climate.

Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s outdoor drainage line breaks into three series that matter for driveway and paver work: the K-99900 channel drains (8-inch and 12-inch widths), the K-99901 paver-edge restraints, and the K-99902 catch basin systems. The model number is stamped on the underside of the channel grate or on a tag molded into the channel body itself, usually visible after you lift the grate with a flathead screwdriver. The critical compatibility gotcha: the K-99900 series uses a proprietary 1.65-inch bottom outlet that does not mate with standard 2-inch PVC without Kohler’s K-99900-A adapter, which we stock. Aftermarket channels from NDS or Stegmeier will fit the excavation but won’t accept the Kohler grate pattern, so if you’re keeping the visible surface, you need OEM or a matched aftermarket equivalent we source through our Belgard and Techo-Bloc distributor relationships. We also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone components for related outdoor kitchen and hardscape projects.

Signs Your Kohler Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Kohler Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Standing water after light rain. The channel bed has settled or cracked, usually from UV degradation of the polymer concrete body after 8-12 years in Miami’s sun. Water follows the path of least resistance, so it backs up at the low spot instead of reaching the catch basin.
  • Grate rattles or lifts when you drive over it. The locking tabs on Kohler’s polymer grates fatigue in heat cycles; we’ve replaced grates in Coconut Grove that cracked at the tab root after just six years of thermal expansion.
  • Silt or sand washing out from between pavers near the channel. The channel joint seal has failed, allowing bedding sand to migrate into the channel body. This undermines the paver base and creates a sinkhole pattern you’ll notice first as a slight dip underfoot.
  • Odor from the drain line during dry spells. The trap seal in the catch basin has dried or the basin itself has cracked, letting sewer gas vent through the grate. In Miami’s flat terrain with high water tables, this usually means the basin needs releveling, not just cleaning.
  • Channel edges crumbling where they meet the concrete or paver field. The Kohler channel’s polymer concrete flange degrades at the interface with Portland-based materials; we’ve seen this accelerate within 3 feet of salt-water pools in Key Biscayne and Bal Harbour.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Miami Price Range
Kohler channel drain replacement (per 10-foot run) $1,180-$2,950
Grate replacement only (OEM Kohler) $295-$590
Catch basin releveling/replacement $590-$1,475
Full paver driveway replacement with drainage $8,260-$21,240
Driveway sealing (after repair) $295-$825

The range depends on three factors: how much of the channel run is accessible without removing pavers, whether the outlet pipe is intact or needs rerouting, and if the paver base was compromised by the drainage failure. Our quote is a flat written price with a written scope before work starts, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation, and you receive a documented photo record of the excavation, the new channel bed, and the finished surface as standard deliverables.

What you can safely check: lift the grate with a screwdriver and look for standing water in the channel body, or run a hose into the grate and time how long it takes to clear, 10 gallons should drain in under 60 seconds. Where DIY goes wrong: the channel bed must pitch 1/8 inch per foot toward the outlet, and if you reset it without a laser level, you’ll create a new low spot that traps debris. More critically, cutting into a paver field without knowing the bond pattern means you’ll never match the interlock, and in Miami’s sandy soils, excavating without shoring the edges collapses the bedding course into the trench. We carry the Kohler-compatible channels, grates, and adapters on our truck, and we pull permits when the work connects to the municipal storm system, which most of Miami-Dade requires for any outlet modification.
