Sterling Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Rowan Construction Group Miami stocks and installs Sterling-compatible driveway and paver components, with most replacement jobs quoted between $5,900 and $16,520 for full driveway replacement and $295-$825 for sealing work. We carry common Sterling paver edge restraints, bedding sand, and joint stabilizers on our trucks, and we can usually source specialized Sterling series components within 24 hours. Most Miami homeowners discover their Sterling driveway or paver system is failing when they notice shifting pavers after a heavy rain, weeds pushing through joints that used to hold, or a surface that no longer drains the way it did when first installed.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling produces several paver and hardscape lines, and matching the right component matters more than most people expect. The Sterling Classic series, Sterling Permeable line, and the heavier-duty Sterling Commercial grade each use different edge restraint profiles, joint sand specifications, and base layer depths. Check the original project documentation for a series stamp, or look for a small Sterling logo cast into the paver itself, usually on the spacer lug or bottom face.

The Classic series uses a 60mm paver height with a beveled edge, while the Permeable line runs 80mm with a wider joint spacing designed for drainage aggregate. We see the most confusion between Classic and Permeable edge restraints, which are not interchangeable, the channel depth differs by 8mm and forcing the wrong profile cracks the restraint within a season. For OEM versus aftermarket, Sterling-branded edge restraints and joint sand stabilizers are available through select distributors, but we often install quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard or Techo-Bloc that meet or exceed Sterling’s spec at a lower unit cost. We quote both options in writing so you can see the difference.

Signs Your Sterling Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Sterling Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers shifting or rocking underfoot. This usually means the bedding sand layer has washed out or compacted unevenly, often because the joint sand failed first and let water penetrate. In Miami, where afternoon storms dump two inches in an hour, a compromised joint is the first domino.
  • Weeds growing between joints. When polymeric sand or stabilizer breaks down, organic matter collects and seeds take root. The root system then lifts the paver slightly, which accelerates the washout cycle.
  • Standing water that used to drain. This points to base layer settlement or a clogged permeable aggregate bed. On Sterling Permeable installations, we find this most often where driveway runoff carries leaf debris into the joints.
  • Edge restraints pulling away from the perimeter. The plastic or aluminum restraint has either cracked from UV exposure or lost its spike anchorage in saturated soil. Once the edge goes, the field pavers migrate outward.
  • White haze or efflorescence on the surface. This is mineral migration from the bedding sand or base aggregate, common in Miami’s limestone-heavy soils. It signals moisture is moving through the assembly in ways the original design did not intend.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Sterling driveway and paver work in Miami, our installed pricing follows the ranges below. These are flat prices written before work starts, not estimates that balloon.

Service Price Range
Driveway Replacement (Sterling-compatible) $5,900-$16,520
Paver Driveway Installation (new) $8,260-$21,240
Concrete Driveway Installation $5,310-$14,160
Driveway Sealing $295-$825
Paver Patio Installation $4,130-$12,980

What drives the range: paver material grade, square footage, base excavation depth (Miami’s high water table sometimes requires additional drainage layer), and whether we are matching existing Sterling stock or starting fresh. Every quote includes removal and disposal of failed material, regraded base with compacted limestone, bedding sand, paver installation, joint sand or stabilizer, and edge restraint. We pull permits when required by Miami-Dade code and pass inspection before final payment. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the price you sign is the price you pay, no change proceeds without a signed change order.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no high-tension danger in paver work, but there is a lot of ways to waste money. A homeowner can safely check whether edge restraints are loose, measure joint width for sand loss, or photograph efflorescence for diagnosis. What goes wrong on DIY repairs: skipping the base layer inspection, using play sand instead of ASTM C-144 bedding sand, or applying sealer over a surface that still has moisture trapped underneath, which locks in the problem and voids most manufacturer warranties.

We have redone three Sterling driveway repairs in the past two years where the owner spent $800 on materials and two weekends, then called us when the pavers shifted again six months later. The fix cost what it would have originally, plus removal of the failed repair. If you want to know whether your situation is a simple sand refill or a base rebuild, call (786) 321-4970 and we will schedule a free estimate with a written price.
