Unilock Fence Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Unilock fence installation in Miami typically runs $4,130-$10,620 for a complete vinyl or aluminum system, with most residential projects quoted in writing before any post goes in the ground. We stock Unilock-compatible posts, rails, and gate hardware for same-day starts on standard heights. Most Miami homeowners discover their fence needs attention when coastal winds after a summer storm leave rails bowed or posts leaning at the base, where the sandy Coral Gables and Pinecrest soils let moisture pool and accelerate rot or corrosion.

Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock’s fence line breaks into two series: the U-Groove vinyl system with routed posts and snap-lock rails, and the U-Guard aluminum line with welded-frame panels and surface-mounted brackets. The vinyl series carries a 4-inch post for 4-foot and 6-foot heights; the aluminum line steps to a 2.5-inch square post for residential grades and a 3-inch for commercial wind-load ratings. Check the post cap: U-Groove caps snap on and show the series stamp underneath; U-Guard caps are screwed down with a small Unilock logo plate.

We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Unilock. For vinyl, we stock OEM-grade rails in white, tan, and clay - the three colors Unilock has run continuously since 2015. For aluminum, we source structural-grade 6063-T6 alloy rails that match Unilock’s mill finish and powder-coat specs, though we also keep Sherwin-Williams Polane match stock for the textured bronze and black that fade differently in Miami’s UV. The gotcha: U-Groove rails from the 2012-2018 production run used a thinner wall (0.055 inch vs. the current 0.080 inch), so a rail ordered blind may not lock into older posts without shimming or post replacement.

Signs Your Unilock Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Post lean at the base. In Miami’s flat terrain with a high water table, posts set without proper drainage rock or below the frost line (which here means below the seasonal wet-dry fluctuation zone) loosen as sandy soil shifts. We see this most in Palmetto Bay and Kendall, where irrigation runoff compounds the issue.
  • Rail bowing between posts. Vinyl rails expand roughly 1/8 inch per 10 feet in direct summer sun; if the installer didn’t leave expansion gaps at the brackets, the rail buckles outward. This is a measurement and allowance issue, not a material defect.
  • Gate sag or latch misalignment. The U-Groove gate kit uses a steel frame inside the vinyl sleeve; when that frame rusts at the bottom corner welds, the gate drops 1/2 inch or more and the latch no longer meets the striker. We stock replacement frames, but often the post hinge side has also pulled, which means resetting the post.
  • Panel rattle in wind. Aluminum brackets with stainless fasteners shouldn’t move; if they do, either the fastener torque was wrong at install or the post wall has ovalized from repeated stress. This is the early sign of a future failure.
  • Discoloration with surface chalking. Unilock vinyl uses TiO2 UV inhibitors that degrade predictably; chalking after 8-10 years is normal, but cracking through the wall means the impact modifier has burned out and the rail is brittle.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A new white vinyl privacy fence with a double gate

For a typical Miami residential run of 150-200 linear feet, Unilock fence installation falls in our $4,130-$10,620 range. Vinyl systems with standard 4-foot privacy or 6-foot semi-privacy sit at the lower end; aluminum with decorative top rails, gates, and wind-load engineering for open-water exposure in Key Biscayne or Coconut Grove push toward the upper end.

Component Price Range (Installed)
Vinyl post replacement (4×4, concrete set) $180-$340 each
Vinyl rail replacement (6-foot section) $85-$160 each
Aluminum post replacement (2.5-inch, surface mount) $220-$380 each
Aluminum panel replacement (6×6 foot) $340-$580 each
Gate rebuild (vinyl, steel frame) $680-$1,180 each
Complete 150-foot vinyl system $4,130-$7,200
Complete 150-foot aluminum system $6,800-$10,620

What drives the spread: soil condition (rock or loose fill requires different footing depth), access for equipment, and whether we pull permits and schedule inspection. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the written price includes all three - no separate line item for “unforeseen conditions” that other contractors add after the post holes are open. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers workmanship; manufacturer defects go through Unilock’s own limited lifetime warranty on vinyl and 20-year coating warranty on aluminum, which we document and file on your behalf.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground. A homeowner can check post plumb with a level, confirm rail bracket screws are tight, and clear drainage around post bases - all useful, all low risk. Where DIY goes wrong is post setting: a 6-foot vinyl privacy panel in 25 mph sustained wind (Miami’s design minimum) needs 32 inches of embedment in a 10-inch diameter concrete footing, plus a gravel drain layer. We’ve pulled too many homeowner-installed posts that were set 18 inches deep in dry-pack mix with no drainage, leaning within two wet seasons. Gate frames with tensioned cable bracing are another place where the adjustment is precise and the failure mode is a gate that slams or won’t latch. If you’re past the inspection stage, call (786) 321-4970 and we’ll quote it in writing before anyone digs.
